My Hotmail: “I want to access my old Hotmail account” is one of the frequent question asked by Microsoft Outlook Account holders. It is a question raised worldwide after Microsoft announced to update its Hotmail service to Outlook, and made announcement to suspend its Hotmail webmail service.
The answer in short is very easy, that is, only name of Sign In is changed to Sign in to your Microsoft account. Your emails, contacts and other details remain unchanged. You can still access Outlook website with your Hotmail login credentials.
However, the only change that you will see is the new ‘Metro-style’ look & feel of your Inbox and the name change of the service from ‘Hotmail’ to ‘Outlook’. Your email address will not change and remain as email@example.com. So don’t worry, your contacts will still be in your reach at your old address.
Here’s what Microsoft says at the landing page of Hotmail:
“Attention Hotmail customers: your email account has been upgraded from Hotmail to Sign In (Outlook) as part of a plan to improve email for all Hotmail customers.”
However, your Hotmail account will become inactive if you don’t sign in for more than 270 days via web browser or within the first 10 days after signing up via web browser for an account, and all your messages, folders, and contacts are deleted and incoming messages will be sent back to the sender as undeliverable.
Your account name will be reserved even after 270 days. However, if your account stays inactive for an additional 90 days, the account name may be permanently deleted as well. See what my hotmail inbox as well for more details.
